expendable friend

leaving before last orders

liner notes

we've made no secret of our love for expendable friend.  in addition to being one of the best lyricists, vocalists and songwriters we can name, she seems to be incapable of writing a song that doesn't wow us.  the uylf team had a spontaneous collective wee when e.f. gave us permission to include her song in june's netlabel launch compilation.

now, here come the fruits of expendable friend's busy winter.  months of care were taken in perfecting and mastering these recordings, and we think you'll agree the release is more than worth the wait.

what we have here is a sunday album, a late-night-driving-on-residential-streets album.  the songs are emotionally resonant without resorting to cliché.  press play and surround yourself with the beautiful ringing acoustic guitars and stunning harmonies.  these haunting melodies and rousing choruses ensure repeated plays, and you'll want to share this one.

although leaving before last orders is on the surface less "experimental" than our usual releases, make no mistake: expendable friend is one of a kind.  if the rest of the uylf roster hasn't convinced you yet, here is your proof: free music can be incredible music.

That was an excessively good listen. Not a single throwaway track, each one is lovely and distinct. The songwriting is stellar, the performances are spot-on, and the production is spotless. "This will never be my home" blows me away completely. Excellent work. This'll be in my playlist for a long time to come.

I had this on in the car on a very tired drive home from work today and it kept me spellbound throughout. "I am your adult" is a standout but this is a wonderful album from start to finish.
